About us:
Astra Tech is one of the fastest-growing technology ecosystems in the MENA region, building large-scale digital products across fintech, payments, e-commerce, communications, and AI-driven consumer services. To support our expansion, we are opening a new engineering hub in Georgia. This hub will become a core part of our global engineering organisation and will work closely with our UAE-based leadership team to deliver high-quality, scalable products used by millions of users.
About the role:
We are looking for a Tech Lead who will establish, manage, and scale our new engineering team in Georgia. This is a foundational role with both technical and organisational impact. You will build the team from the ground up, drive engineering excellence, ensure smooth cross-regional collaboration, and provide hands-on technical leadership. Java experience is strongly preferred, but candidates with strong backend expertise in Go, Node.js, Python, or .NET are also encouraged to apply.
Main responsibilities:
** Build and scale the Georgia engineering team: lead hiring, onboarding, and development from scratch.
** Shape engineering culture, introduce best practices, and establish high-quality standards.
** Provide hands-on technical leadership in architecture, design, and code reviews.
** Ensure delivery of scalable, secure backend systems aligned with company strategy.
** Act as the main communication bridge between Georgia Engineering and UAE leadership.
** Drive structured cross-regional coordination and ensure visibility on priorities.
** Manage day-to-day engineering operations, task planning, and performance development.
** Mentor engineers, encourage ownership, and foster a culture of quality and collaboration.
** Oversee end-to-end delivery of projects executed by the Georgia hub.
** Collaborate with Product, QA, DevOps, and Design to ensure smooth release cycles.
Your experience:
** 7+ years in software engineering, including at least 4 + years in a leadership or team-lead role.
** Strong proficiency in Java (preferred) or another backend stack such as Go, Node.js, Python, or .NET.
** Solid understanding of system design, microservices, distributed systems, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
** Proven experience building or scaling engineering teams.
** Strong communication skills and ability to work across regions, time zones, and cultures.
** Ability to bring structure to ambiguous or fast-changing environments.
Nice to have:
** Experience in high-growth or startup environments.
** Exposure to multi-regional engineering operations.
** Background in fintech or large-scale consumer products.
