Company Overview

Silmet is the Georgian production arm of MTALX Ltd., a UK-based commodity trading company, specialising in the manufacturing and export of high-purity silicon and ferrosilicon. Silmet operates a plant in Kutaisi and is in the process of evaluating a second production facility in the region. Our products are primarily exported to the United States and the European Union.

Role Overview

The Country Manager will be the senior-most representative of MTALX in Georgia, responsible for leading, developing, and executing all business operations across the Georgian subsidiaries. The role will focus on ensuring production targets are met, managing plant operations, ensuring financial discipline, and implementing corporate strategy locally. This position is critical to aligning on-the-ground activities with MTALX`s strategic global goals.

Reporting to Executive Management Team, MTALX Ltd. (UK)

Key Responsibilities

Strategic and Operational Oversight

** Provide full leadership and strategic oversight of Silmet operations in Georgia.
** Reopen and scale up the Silmet plant, and help evaluate and potentially launch a second ferrosilicon facility.
** Translate the UK head office`s strategic goals into practical, locally actionable initiatives.
Production and Technical Management
** Hold plant Production Managers accountable for daily operations, outputs, quality control, cost-efficiency, and health & safety.
** Oversee raw material procurement, metallurgical processes, and plant productivity.
** Ensure compliance with environmental and industrial regulations.
Financial and Commercial Management
** Establish and manage operational budgets, monitor financial performance, and drive cost-efficiency across facilities.
** Contribute to financial modelling and commercial planning to assess the viability of investments and expansions.
** Oversee procurement and supply chain activity to ensure cost-effective input materials and timely delivery of finished goods.

Administrative and Financial Oversight

** Ensure efficient collaboration among operational, financial, and administrative units to maintain smooth plant functioning.
** Coordinate financial reporting, budgeting processes, and administrative compliance with local and international standards.
** Ensure all three leads at each plant (Production, Finance, and Admin) meet agreed performance and reporting targets.
** Directly oversee Finance and Administration Managers alongside the Production Managers in each facility.
** Take overall responsibility for the financial and administrative functions across the entire business in Georgia.

Human Resources and Leadership

** Lead recruitment, development, and management of the Georgian operational team, including hiring plant-level leadership.
** Ensure a strong culture of accountability, safety, and performance.
** Act as the senior-most in-country representative and be responsible for all staff, contracts, and HR matters.

Stakeholder Communication and Reporting

** Act as primary point of contact between MTALX owners and Georgian operations.
** Provide regular updates on production, performance, budget, risk, and business development opportunities.
** Represent Silmet in regulatory, legal, and community-facing matters as required.
Person Specification

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

** Degree-qualified in Engineering (preferably Metallurgical, Chemical or Industrial Engineering).
** Minimum 10 years of experience in metal or alloy manufacturing, including direct experience in silicon or ferrosilicon preferred.
** Minimum 5 years in a senior management position within a production or industrial environment.
** Demonstrable experience overseeing multi-functional teams and managing plant operations, including start-up or scale-up of industrial facilities.

Key Skills and Competencies:

** Strong leadership with the ability to drive operational excellence and high performance.
** Deep understanding of industrial production processes and quality control standards.
** Financial acumen, including budgeting, financial modelling, and cost control.
** Proven ability to manage procurement, logistics, and raw material sourcing.
** High level of integrity, independence, and accountability.
** Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills.
** Fluency in English essential; fluency in Georgian or Russian is a strong advantage.

Location and Travel:

This role is based in Georgia (Kutaisi), with potential travel between operational sites.
