The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is pleased to announce an Internship Programme for young agronomists, veterinarians, food technologists and viticulturists/wine technologists.

FAO is implementing a project under the European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD IV, a programme funded by the European Union, SWEDEN, CzDA and FAO.

Within the project, FAO will support the Food Safety and Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Sector in Georgia.

FAO Georgia is seeking candidates with bachelor`s degree in Agronomy, Veterinary, Food Technology, Winemaking and Viticulture, to work in Kakheti, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Imereti, Shida Kartli and Kvemo Kartli regions, providing technical support to FAO in the capacity building of Primary Producers (PP) and Food Business Operators (FBO).

The Internship Program is designed to strengthen technical and managerial skills while providing interns with hands-on field experience. Participants will benefit from both theoretical and practical training led by experts across various value chains, including meat, poultry, vegetables, aquaculture, dairy production, viticulture and wine.

The program spans six months, during which interns will have the opportunity to engage in field activities aligned with their areas of expertise. This includes working with primary producers in vegetable, dairy production and grapevine producers and collaborating with Food Business Operators at various processing plants including wineries.

During the programme, selected candidates will:

** Complete specialized training on crops, focusing on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA), and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices.
** Participate in specific training sessions on Food Safety.
** Gain practical work experience through collaboration with FAO staff in the field and at various processing plants across different industries.
** Be mentored by an FAO staff member who will supervise their performance during the internship and provide career development guidance.
** Contribute to the preparation of training materials and guidelines for the food processing industry.
** Assist in awareness-raising activities for Food Business Operators (FBOs) and primary producers on topics such as foodborne diseases, animal welfare, and improving food processing lines to meet general food safety requirements.
** Support FBOs and primary producers in evaluating and enhancing safety and quality control procedures throughout the food processing chain, from raw materials to finished products.
** Provide advice to primary producers on implementing biosecurity measures to prevent the introduction of diseases to farms.
** Educate primary producers on the responsible use of veterinary medicinal products to increase awareness of residue management and prevent antimicrobial resistance.
** Participate in training primary producers on animal feed practices, vaccination programs, and deworming to reduce zoonotic diseases, foodborne illnesses, and chemical contaminants in food.
** Support the field implementation of Mating Disruption Programme to control the European grapevine moth
** Participate in the training programmes focused on viticulture, winemaking, hazelnut production and processing, wine food safety, blueberry production.
** Assist in planning the training sessions on wine marketing and branding, export requirements and related topics.

Intern Responsibilities:

** Work alongside FAO staff in the field and at processing plants across various regions.
** Participate in training sessions for primary producers on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA), and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for vegetable production, ensuring the production of safe products.
** Maintain detailed records of activities, inputs, and equipment (including quantities and unit prices) for the farms they are assigned to. This data will contribute to the development of crop budgets for different vegetable production systems.
** Assist in organizing and managing field training sessions for beneficiaries across various value chains.
** Maintain continuous communication with Food Business Operators (FBOs) and primary producers (PPs), providing support to improve food processing lines. Based on needs assessments, organize and conduct training sessions, and share gained knowledge and best practices.
** Support data entry into Zoho (a monitoring system) by registering training sessions, recording household data, and entering other relevant activity information during the internship.
** Assist small FBOs in enhancing their knowledge of establishing a Prerequisite Program (PRP) and provide guidance for improving existing programs.
** Weekly field monitoring of grapevine moth in various locations of Georgia.

Candidates will be assessed against the following requirements:

** Possess an undergraduate or graduate degree in Agronomy, Veterinary Science, Food Technology, or Winemaking/Viticulture from a bona fide educational institution (listed in the IAU/UNESCO database).
** Have working knowledge of English (English proficiency will be evaluated during the interview).
** Be a national of Georgia.
** Be between 21 and 30 years of age.
** Candidates with family members (defined as brother, sister, mother or father) employed by FAO under any type of contractual arrangement are not eligible for the Internship Programme.
