Mission and objectives:

The UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) provides strategic oversight and coordination support to the UN Country Team in Georgia. Its purpose is to maximize the work of the United Nations so that the system can provide a collective, coherent and integrated response to national priorities and needs, within the scope of 2021-2025 UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for Georgia (UNSDCF) and more broadly - the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Context:

The National UN Volunteer would work closely with the UN Georgia Communications Group to strengthen ONE UN result-oriented communications of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), including key results from initiatives such as joint programmes and flagship joint UN efforts towards the acceleration of the SDGs. The UN Volunteer be embedded in the team of the UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) in Georgia, which collectively delivers five key functions: (1) strategic planning; (2) development economics; (3) partnerships and SDG financing; (4) data, and results management and reporting; and (5) communications and advocacy.

The RCO supports the Resident Coordinator`s leadership of the UN Country Team (UNCT) through the provision of strategic policy, programmatic and operational advice on the above-mentioned areas, as well as any other area relevant for inter-agency coordination with the objective of fostering the UN reform at the country level. UN Volunteer`s specific contribution and learning opportunities would be adjusted based on the candidate`s profile and aspirations, while ensuring exposure and participation in all aspects of RCO`s work and direct engagement with a wide range of UN-internal and external stakeholders.

The UNV assignment, located in the RCO, is under the oversight of the UN Resident Coordinator in Georgia and the direct supervision of the Head of RCO. The National UN Volunteer will support the RC and the RCO in the implementation of the UNCT communications and advocacy workplan, with special focus on social media management, and production of communications materials. The National UN Volunteer will also contribute, as part of the RCO, to the Inter-agency UN Communications Group to communicate on the UN Development System reform objectives, implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and programmes and initiatives of the UN Country Team in Georgia. The National UN Volunteer will also support UNCT work to monitor and combat hate speech and misinformation.

Task description:

Under the oversight of the UN Resident Coordinator in Georgia, and direct supervision of the RCO Head of Office, the National UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

** Support the implementation of integrated Social Media Strategy for RC and UNCT social media
** Support the daily management of UN Georgia social media platforms
** Support the production of innovative and engaging content, including infographics to depict results of UN work in Georgia
** Support the UNCT in capturing human interest stories that can be used for social media and other related communication activities
** Support the development of a joint audio-visual archive inclusive of photographs, simple videos and audio clips that help tell the UN story
** Support the design of banners, folders, business cards, bulletins, publications, and other requested printing /audio visual materials
** Support pre- and post-event event/field visits` communications including social media, photography/videography involving RC`s participation
** Support provision of inputs for speeches, human interest stories, newsletters, bulletins, pamphlets, and other key outreach materials
** Support monitoring of misinformation and hate speech and contribute to enhancing the preparedness of the UNCT/RCO to respond to misinformation
** Support the updating of communications, media partner and other office databases
** Any other duty assigned by the RC or Head of RCO

Eligibility criteria

** Required experience: 3 years
** Nationality: Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.

** Required education level: Bachelor degree or equivalent in Communications/Visual Communications, Digital Marketing, Information Management or other relevant field of discipline.

Skills and experience:

** Strong graphic design and digital skills
** Experience working with international organizations or bilateral and multilateral development partner organizations is an asset
** Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; experience in video production, social media/ website management and content creation; graphic design knowledge and experience in the use of office software packages including Adobe
** Strong project and event management skills
** Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing
** Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development
** Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, among others), email, and internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment
** Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines

Summary of Entitlements and Allowances for National UN Volunteer (Specialist): Paid in local currency

** As of December 2024, Monthly Living Allowance (MLA) is GEL 2733.83
** Private insurance: Health, dental, life and dismemberment coverage by CIGNA
** Entry allowance: 400 USD (paid in GEL)
** Exit allowance: Approximately 227.82 GEL per month (paid only upon the satisfactory completion of assignment)
** Annual leave: 2.5 days accrued per calendar month
** Free access to different learning platforms and UN & UNV network

2) It`s important to note that UNV assignments are volunteer assignments, not employment.

The purpose of the allowances and entitlements paid to UN Volunteers is to enable UN Volunteers to sustain a secure standard of living at the duty stations in line with United Nations standards without incurring personal costs.
